In recent months, as commercial leases dry up and in-person work requirements seem to be softer and favor hybrid participation, Manhattan continues to shrink. Interestingly, I find more tourists on the streets in midtown that residents.
What was once considered a luxury in Manhattan, has now gone beyond. When you kept a car in the city before congestion pricing, you might venture out of the garage to perform some mundane task like pick your kids up from school or drive them to some sporting event occurring around the city. Though this may still be the case, the cost just went up.
I am reminded that simply taking my family member to the airport to catch a flight out of Newark makes a car service more efficient and even more cost effective than taking the car out. Newark is it is not as well serviced as JFK with its popular Airtrain service.
Regular airport commuters should look into the newer Uber shuttles I am told are now being offered to major airports servicing NYC.
I CALL FOR EXCEPTIONS FOR ALL MANHATTAN RESIDENTS KEYED ON THEIR EASY PASS!

There is, however, a way to get to Newark via transit. Both NJT service and the Newark Airport Express get people from Midtown to EWR. While not as quick on paper, they are effective, safe, and less variable than driving. If you were looking to arrive at a time not serviced by these options, you’d likely only be paying the reduced overnight congestion relief, and tolls anyways. Additionally, if you’d like to drive mid-day, you can, you should. You’ll just have to pay that extra bit because of the service you’d be using.
